Ilhas Studio — FUSO RETROSPECTIVA

Identity and communication materials for FUSO RETROSPECTIVA (FUSO RETROSPECTIVE).

After five editions of redefining and exploring FUSO’s visual identity, ilhas studio was invited to develop the graphic image for a significant milestone in the festival’s history, a retrospective that brings together works created through the residency programme Laboratório Imagem em Movimento (Image in Movement Laboratory). Marking this unique retrospective moment, the graphic concept takes as its starting point one of the defining elements of FUSO’s visual identity: the letter “O”.

The expansion of the final letter in FUSO became the starting point for the visual concept. Stretched beyond its original form, the letter transforms into a graphic gesture that suggests continuity, accumulation, and the unfolding of multiple narratives over time. This expansion acts as a metaphor for the growth of the program itself while also referencing the temporal and spatial dimensions inherent to moving-image practices.

About FUSO:

Founded in 2009, FUSO is Lisbon’s only open-air video art festival, presented in distinctive locations such as gardens and museum cloisters. With free admission, the festival brings together artists, curators, institutions, and the general public engaged in moving-image practices.

Launched in 2019, FUSO INSULAR extends the festival’s mission to the Azores, addressing a gap in the region’s artistic landscape by fostering knowledge, training, and critical engagement with moving-image art.

FUSO RETROSPECTIVA is an exhibition that presents works created over six years of the Laboratório Imagem em Movimento (Image in Movement Laboratory) residency program.
