Ilhas Studio — Carlos Bunga. Habitar a Contradição
Carlos Bunga. Habitar a Contradição (Carlos Bunga. Inhabit the Contradiction) is an extensive monograph dedicated to the work of Carlos Bunga, published on the occasion of his eponymous exhibition at CAM, in Lisbon.
Edited by Rui Mateus Amaral, the publication offers an in-depth perspective on the exhibition and its dialogue between Bunga’s work and selected pieces from the CAM Collection. New and existing works are explored through curatorial notes, alongside essays by Rina Carvajal, Roland Groenenboom, Omar Kholeif, November Paynter and Catarina Rosendo, each examining different dimensions of the artist’s multifaceted practice.
The book also features DNA 2015–25, a dictionary-like text initiated by Bunga in 2015 and adapted for this edition. Through the artist’s own definitions, key words and concepts open up new ways of approaching his work, his poetic language and his relationship with the art world.
Completing the publication, a poster wrapping the catalogue offers a glimpse into the installation process of the exhibition at CAM.
The catalogue brings together an extensive visual archive of site-specific installations and performances, including installation views, video stills and previously unpublished photographs documenting the processes behind exhibitions and artworks developed between 2019 and 2025.
